California Metal & Supply is a leading supplier of
quality
6AL-4V Titanium (6-4), CP (Commercially Pure), and 6AL-2SN-4ZR-2MO
(6-2-4-2).
TITANIUM:
A chemical element
with low density and is a strong, lustrous, corrosion-resistant transition metal with a silver color.
Titanium is a performance metal, first utilized by
the aerospace industry for its high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion
resistance and durability.
In the 1950s, the titanium metal industry was established primarily in
response to the emerging aerospace industry, which used it in the manufacture
of airframe structural components and skin, aircraft hydraulic systems, air
engine components, rockets, missiles, and spacecraft, where these properties
are invaluable.
Alloyed & Unalloyed Titanium
Titanium can be alloyed with iron, aluminum,
vanadium, molybdenum, among other elements, to produce strong lightweight
alloys for aerospace (jet engines, missiles, and spacecraft), military,
industrial process (chemicals and petro-chemicals).
Titanium alloys are metallic materials which contain a mixture of titanium and
other chemical elements. There are the unalloyed
or CP (Commercially Pure) grades of titanium.
In its unalloyed condition, titanium is as strong
as some steels, but 45% lighter.
The most widely used of this Cp titanium are classified as Grades 1 thru 4, 7,
11, and 12. The higher the grade numbers, the higher the strength. The first
four titanium grades allow for increasing levels of impurities. Palladium is
added to titanium Grades 7 and 11, at about 0.2%, to improve its corrosion
resistance.

Ti-5Al-2Sn-4Mo-2Zr-4Cr
(Ti-17) / Ti-5Al-2Sn-2Zr-4Cr-4Mo/ UNS R58650
Ti-5Al-2Sn-4Mo-2Zr-4Cr is known as Ti-17 alloy and is a beta-rich material for
large aerospace components. 5Al-2Sn-4Mo-2Zr-4Cr is an advanced engine alloy,
creep and oxidation resistant.
Ti-17 is a near beta, high strength alloy used primarily for gas turbine
applications. Ti-5Al-2Sn-4Mo-2Zr-4Cr (Ti-17) is a high-strength, deep
hardenable, forging alloy that was developed primarily for gas turbine engine
components, such as disks for fan and compressor stages. Ti-17 has strength
properties superior to those of Ti-6Al-4V, and also exhibits higher creep
resistance at intermediate temperatures.

3Al-8V-6Cr-4Mo-4Zr /
3Al-8V-6Cr-4Mo-4Zr (Beta C)/ Ti-3-8-6-4-4/ Ti Beta-C
UNS # 58460
Ti-3-8-6-4-4 is a heat-treatable, deep section hardenable, very high strength
Ti alloy possessing good toughness/strength properties, low elastic modulus
and elevated resistance to stress and localized corrosion in high temperature
sweet and sour brines.
The properties of Beta C or 3Al-8V-6Cr-4Mo-4Zr with UNS 58460 have led to its
use in a number of niche applications, including parts of aircraft landing
gear and in fasteners used in the automotive industry. Beta C is also used in
oilfield applications such as pressure housings, shafts, valves and other
critical components where very high strength and excellent corrosion
resistance are required.
